Inspired by moments in nature
Some moments are impossible to walk past.
The hush of an early morning before the world wakes. The rhythm of grasses moving in the wind. Light breaking through clouds over distant hills. The fragile beauty of a flower as its petals begin to unfurl. These are the moments that stop me in my tracks and become the starting point for my work.
Living in Lincolnshire, I'm surrounded by vast skies and open landscapes, but inspiration isn't tied to one place. It can be found on a quiet coastal path, among wild flowers, in an old city garden or high on a rugged hillside. What draws me in is not simply the landscape itself, but the fleeting moments within it that often go unnoticed.
My sketchbook usually comes with me, although sometimes I simply pause, watching, listening and absorbing. Those experiences stay with me long after I've returned to the studio, where they gradually evolve into paintings that are guided as much by memory and feeling as by observation.
Working with watercolour, ink and mixed media, I embrace the fluidity and unpredictability of the materials. Layers of transparent colour, expressive marks and muted palettes are allowed to develop intuitively, echoing the movement, atmosphere and quiet energy found in nature.
Rather than describing a place or flower in precise detail, I hope each piece captures its essence—the feeling of standing there, breathing it in and carrying that memory home.
My paintings are created for people who find peace in nature, who treasure those small, easily overlooked moments, and who want to bring a little of that calm, space and connection into their everyday lives.
A painting often begins with something small: a particular quality of light, a change in the weather, the shape of the land, or a moment that makes me stop and look twice. I take those impressions back to the studio, where they slowly find their way into the work.

The Art of Noticing
Many people discover my work through a painting, but the paintings are only part of the story.
Long before I return to the studio, I'm walking, sketching and quietly collecting ideas from the landscape around me—a changing sky, birdsong carried on the wind, the colour of a harvested field or the delicate structure of a seed head.
I share many of these observations in Things I've Noticed—a journal of seasonal reflections, sketchbook pages and the small moments that continue to shape my work.

A good notebook. I really don't need another one, but that rarely stops me.

An afternoon with nowhere I need to be, a good book, and time to notice what's around me.
